This particular lot is traceable to Rumudamo Kebele Washing Station in the fabled Sidama region and curated through our supply chain partner, Arbegona coffees. The independent station near the village of Arbegona is owned by Kalid Omer Ali who works in partnership with South Bursha Trading PLC to export directly to Royal. Processing Details: The journey started in typical fashion, in which several hundred coffee producers with average plots of just a few acres deliver their ripe cherries to the Rumudamo Kebele Washing Station.

Along with coffee, farmers in this area commonly grow bananas, citrus, and enset—a fruit-less relative of the banana tree whose pulp is scraped and packed into cakes, fermented underground, and then sliced and toasted as kocho, a staple starch. Farms here surpass 2200 meters, and the entire area is surrounded on its eastern side by the virgin Harenna Forest National Park. These are some of the highest elevations in all of Sidama, and some of the most remote. Harvest here pushes past the end of the calendar year. This particular coffee is essentially a procedurally perfect late-harvest natural process with a unique stage of careful cherry maceration. Coffee cherry is inspected, floated for density, and then drained. Once initial selection is complete, the cherry is packed tightly inside large plastic barrels where an airlock system prevents any oxygen from entering. After 72 hours in barrels, the coffee was removed and laid out on 150 raised beds with the cherry still intact, where it was dried slowly over the course of 2-3 weeks. Exporting Details: Once the coffee parchment reaches 10-12 percent moisture, it is transported to Addis Ababa where the same focus on sorting and quality control is executed through to the final export stage.
