What Happens at The Crown
The Crown is home to a public tasting room, a roster of consulting and education services, and a calendar of classes and cuppings open to coffee professionals and curious enthusiasts alike.
Visit the Tasting Room
Enjoy pour-overs, espresso drinks, tasting flights, and seasonal coffees served directly from Royal Coffee's active inventory. The Tasting Room is open Monday through Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and walk-ins are always welcome.
Coffee Consulting
Our consulting practice covers sensory training, production and sample roasting, green coffee analysis, café and roastery startup, and quality control system design. Engagements are one-on-one or built for small groups, and they are led by Chris Kornman, our Director of Education.
Classes & Events
The Crown publishes a calendar of scheduled cuppings, roasting workshops, brewing classes, and origin studies hosted at our Oakland lab. Classes are open to coffee professionals and serious home enthusiasts.
Why Royal Coffee Built The Crown
The Crown exists because importing specialty green coffee well requires more than logistics. How a coffee is processed at origin, sample-roasted by a buyer, evaluated by a Q-grader, and brewed in a café all affect what a roaster ultimately tastes in the cup. The Crown is where Royal Coffee invests in that work, and where the industry and enthusiasts can come to learn.

The Crown is the education and research arm of Royal Coffee, an independently-owned specialty green coffee importer headquartered in Emeryville, California. Royal Coffee sources green coffee from more than 30 origins, operates a buying office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and warehouses coffee in six locations across North America.
The Crown is located at 2523 Broadway in downtown Oakland, California. Our public Tasting Room is open seven days a week, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and welcomes walk-ins. For consulting inquiries, private cuppings, or to rent the space, please reach out at thecrown@royalcoffee.com.
