Royal is an independent, family-owned importer of specialty green coffee since 1978. We hold sourcing relationships in more than thirty countries and stock coffee in six warehouses: Oakland, Seattle, Midwest, Houston, Vancouver, and Shanghai. Our sales and QC teams are made up of seasoned specialty coffee experts who have worked together and calibrated at the cupping table for many years. Our traders have weathered decades of market swings and cup thousands of coffees a year. Our logistics specialists move shipments across the world efficiently and our warehouse crews standards are something of an industry legend. If you have a question about a coffee, an origin, a contract, or the market, someone here has almost certainly seen it before.

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and one of the most critical origins on roasters' menus. It has one of the most complex export regulatory environments in specialty coffee, where milling schedules, container availability, geopolitical issues, and document verification can prevent or delay a shipment from leaving the country.
In 2025 we opened Royal Coffee Addis Ababa, a sourcing hub, cupping lab, and logistics office, led by Royal veteran Haile Andualem. A local team means:
A broader supplier network. We engage directly with smallholder producers who, under Ethiopia's expanded export framework, can now export as independent agents.
Shipment integrity. It means someone watching milling, containers, and paperwork on the ground, where shipments tend to stall.
Pre-shipment samples cupped locally. Samples are evaluated in Addis by a calibrated team before they ever ship which helps provide a more curated, dynamic Ethiopian portfolio.
