Sourcing Details:

Ricardo Cortez Perez is a young second generation coffee producer from San Andres, a municipality within the department of Lempira.

Ricardo's produced this micro-lot on his 15-acre farm called Gualion. Processing Detail During the harvest, Ricardo practices selective picking with focus on picking only fully ripened cherries, which are then processed at the farm’s micro-mill.

At the mill, the cherries are washed and floated to remove damaged and less dense coffee.

The selected cherries are then placed on raised beds and gently dried and stored until it is time to prepare the coffee for export.

During the harvest he employs 25 people.

The Exporter Ricardo collaborates with an export company called BICAFE, which operates a warehouse and dry-mill in Santa Rosa de Copan.

Weather conditions in Santa Rosa are ideal for storing parchment and the dry-mill is specifically designed for sorting micro-lots.

The partnership has helped to improve quality, increase earnings from coffee sales, and strengthen the family’s livelihood.
