Leonardo Sanmiguel Benavides produced this micro-lot on his 45 acre farm called El Secreto in the municipality of Tello.
Leonardo has taken a great deal of care to intercrop his coffee with Yucca and bananas, which helps him better manage the health of his farm. Processing Details Post harvest activities are cared out at El Secreto, which has his own micro-mill where carefully harvests cherries are macerated for 12 hours before depulping and fermenting for another 48 hours. After this, Leonardo washes the coffee to remove the mucilage and then gently dries it on raised beds. Exporting Details Leonardo’s father purchased El Secreto and left it to Leonardo when he passed away.
The vision or the farm was to extend the family’s coffee knowledge beyond the successful exporting company called San Miguel.
Based in Huila, San Miguel has spent years focusing on bringing traceable individual farmer micro-lots to the international market.
With El Secreto, Leonardo has improved his partnership with other producers and his own family’s export business.
