The Certification Process
“As an importer, we are required to acquire a license from ROA. The process is similar for roasters that want to make the product claim on retail labels. We submitted our existing organic certificate, answered various questions about our purchasing practices and provided information about our planned supply chain for regenerative coffees. It’s important to have product specs and supply chain identified before beginning as this traceability data is needed to complete the application. Overall, the process was very straightforward,” notes Lauren. “With new certifications emerging every year and evolving social and environmental requirements for existing schemes, it can be a tough call for roasters to decide which labels to pursue. Our trading team can provide information about different certifications and origins to help you reach your goals.”
