Crown Jewel Spring & Summer Lineup 2025

“Never a dull moment” feels like this year’s motto. If the first quarter of the calendar has felt unprecedented, I can only hope we’ve sourced enough coffee to stay energized for whatever comes next! Fortunately, I think the answer is a resounding yes. 

Here’s a look at the next few months of Crown Jewel expectations: 

April 

Sumatra & Decaf Kenya 

Launched April 11, we have two exciting experiments in processing sourced from supply partner PT Adena: a Wet Hulled Anaerobic Sumatra, and an extended Fermented and Washed Sumatra. They are delicious and land well outside whatever box you’re used to putting coffees from this area of the world in. We’re also releasing an exclusive, collaboratively sourced Decaf, partnering with Swiss Water to process a limited run of Kenyan decaf. 

Bolivia 

Yulissa Chambi’s coffee returns to the menu again, clean, complex, and exciting as ever. This year’s offerings include an anaerobic and classic washed coffee, both certified Organic. 

Ethiopia & Burundi 

Yes, you heard correct – JNP coffee from Burundi returns triumphantly to the menu in the form a delicate, fruity natural from Ngozi, and we expedited an exclusive washed Sidama, a coffee handpicked by Max Nicholas-Fulmer and Haile Andualem from our brand-new lab in Addis! It might be the earliest-arriving Ethiopian Crown Jewel ever. 

May 

Colombia 

A big batch of coffees from our pals Wbeimar Lasso and Juliana Rivera of Terraza Coffee is slated to arrive in Oakland the first week of May. Selections include a lemon/lime Gesha coferment, one of the most delicious honey processed Geshas I’ve ever tasted, and two Javas – a classic washed and a double fermented and washed option. 

Burundi 

A second natural coffee from Burundi, this one from supply partner Long Miles, arrives in the middle of May. Expect a papaya-like flavor with the usual high degree of traceability. 

June 

Tanzania 

One of the longest ocean transit times to Oakland, coffees shipping from Dar Es Salaam must endure months on the water. This year, our Tanzania selections made it to port months earlier than last, so we’re expecting these coffees from longtime supply partners Neel and Kavita Vohora to arrive the first weeks of June. We contracted two Geshas (washed and natural), plus a natural SL28 and a natural “Simba” Ethiopian landrace. 

Kenya 

Our first Kenya should arrive in early June as well, a peaberry selection from the Kii washing station, one of the top-scoring Kenyas of the entire year. 

Contracted and Anticipated before the End of June 

  • Guatemala Antigua Bella Carmona Greenhouse Dried 
  • Honduras Organic Naturals – 2x single farmer lots 
  • Colombia – a second batch from Terraza including a washed Gesha, 2x Fermented Bourbon, and Sidra 
  • Costa Ricas – Two naturals and the return of the classic “gingerbread” profile, El Diamante Anaerobic  

A Little Further into the Future 

  • Sumatra – a Lychee coferment, and a slow-dry natural are expected to ship this month 
  • Ethiopia – while shipping lanes are still being coordinated, we anticipate a wide selection of naturals, two honeys, and a little bit of very nice washed coffees all to arrive between June and August.  
  • Kenya – Mahiga and Gatugi will return to the menu this year, and while Ichamama’s washed coffees were less impressive, we did manage to lock in a very small amount of natural for the first time. Likely shipping this month and arriving in July if all goes to plan.
