About the role 

Royal Coffee has been importing specialty green coffee since 1978. We’re independent, family-owned, and have teams in Emeryville, Oakland, Canada, China, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Sales Team Associate is a vital part of how our operations run day to day. 

The Sales Team Associate’s primary responsibility is to find and develop new business. While the Associate will participate in cuppings and will have input into the Company’s buying decisions, this position is primarily sales-focused, rather than purchasing-focused. In addition to developing Associate’s own book of business, the STA will assist Royal’s trading staff with account administration, including but not limited to order preparation and execution, sample follow up, price quotes, etc. 

The work is customer-focused, fast-paced, and integral to Royal Coffee’s success.  

What you’ll do 

• Manage emailed inquiries and field incoming calls from new potential clients 
• Pursue leads 
• Visit accounts and attend industry events 
• Sell coffee to and manage your accounts’ needs 

What we’re looking for 

• Strong customer service skills 
• Self-motivator; comfortable working independently and as part of a team 
• Clear written and verbal communication 
• Enthusiasm for and experience in the coffee industry 
• Experienced cupper 
• Ability to multi-task 
• Strong organizational and time management instincts; you notice when something is out of place and fix it. 

Nice to have 

• Q Grader certification or active progress toward it 
• Spanish language skills 
• Solid Excel skills (pivot tables, basic formulas, clean data entry habits) 

Schedule, location, and what we offer 

• Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM 
• Our Emeryville office has a sunlit cupping lab overlooking the San Francisco Bay
