This coffee is sourced from Bernardo Cantarero and his four-member family. Bernardo produced this coffee on his 17-acre farm called La Leona located in the municipality of San Miguelito within the department of Intibuca, Honduras. Bernardo has been farming for 10 years and uses his own mill to processes harvested cherries, which allows for meticulous care in depulping, fermenting, and drying the coffee. While coffee continues to be the family's main source of income for Bernardo, he is also planting more shade trees that can also be harvest and sold to generate an additional source of income for the family. Bernardo collaborates with an export company called BICAFE, which operates a warehouse and dry-mill in Santa Rosa de Copan. Weather conditions in Santa Rosa are ideal for storing parchment and the dry-mill is specifically designed for sorting high quality micro-lots. The partnership has helped to improve quality, increase earnings from coffee sales, and strengthen the family’s livelihood.
