Coffee Background

Colombia Narino La Mina Franco Lopez Caturra GrainPro is sourced from a single farm called La Mina, owned by Franco López and his family since 1994. La Mina farm is located near the municipality of Buesaco in the department of Nariño, Colombia. Franco is 72 years old and he has 4 adult children. Franco’s youngest daughter, Cielo, is continuing the family legacy of coffee cultivation. Franco has been participating in cup of excellence for the last four years and his coffee has placed within the winning lots each year. He attributes the great coffee quality to careful picking and processing of caturra cherries in his micro-mill, which allows for meticulous care in depulping, fermenting, and drying. Franco and his family, in collaboration with an exporting company called Inconexus, coordinate efforts that include technical support to guide coffee farmers on the best agricultural practices to produce high quality coffee. The goal of the partnership between Franco and Inconexus is to increase the quality of his coffee and income from the sale of his coffee as a way to improve the quality of life for Franco’s family.
