Here is an opportunity to support a newly formed organization of producers in the Junin region of Peru. The Asociación de Productores Villa Rica Yanesha was formed in 2017 with 89 members (35 women) in the Chanchamayo province. Yanesha is the name of the indigenous group that first inhabited the area. Producers here continue to follow organic farm management practices attuned to their cultural connection with the land. The farms average 15 acres in size and are intercropped with shade trees, bananas, corn, and beans. Each producer has their own micro-mill where carefully harvested cherries are depulped, fermented, washed to remove the mucilage, and then gently dried on raised beds. The association manages a local warehouse to store coffee until it is ready for export. The association works with Kaffee Perú to export their coffee.
