Coffee Background

BRAZIL ORGANIC BAHIA FAZENDA SAO JOSE NATURAL ECOTACT coffee is sourced from a family owned estate located in the municipalities of Barra da Estiva within the state of Bahia, Brazil.  Fazenda Sao Jose is located near the Chapada Diamantina National Park, known for its mountainous cliff formations (chapada) and 19th century diamond mining (diamantina). Sheila Carvalho Figueredo has managed her family’s 60-acre estate called Sao Jose for the last 7 years, while her husband works in the city and her 2 sons are at school. Only 10 acres of the estate is currently used for coffee cultivation but there are plans to add another 10 acres for growing coffee. Sheila employees 10 women from her community to help her manage the estate. In addition to coffee, the family cultivates beans and has ten buffalo.
