Coffee Background

Colombia Huila Alejandra Bastidas Grainpro is sourced from a family owned farm called Villa Camila, which is located in the community of El Palacio in the municipality of Acevedo within the department of Huila, Colombia. Alejandra Bastidas and her husband purchased land 20 years ago and planted the first 1000 coffee trees. Over the past 20 years they have been able to build the family’s home and expand the number of trees to more than 10,000. Villa Camila also has a micro-mill where cherry selection, depulping, fermentation, and drying are meticulously executed. Alejandra collaborates with an export company called Banexport to gain access to technical support for best agricultural practices, which has helped improve the quality of the coffee they produce. Alejandra uses the coffee income to support her family of 5, which includes her husband, two adult children, her father and a grandchild. Alejandra hopes to start making improvements to her wet-mill with the increased earnings from her coffee.
