Coffee Background

GUATEMALA FTO QUICHE SHB EP GRAINPRO is sourced from family-owned farms organized around Empresa Campesina Asociativa (Eca Flor de Maíz), which has 65 members cultivating organic coffee around the community of Villa Hortensia located in the municipality of San Juan Cotzal within the department of El Quiché, Guatemala. This region, called the Ixil, is known for its rugged terrain and preservation of the indigenous heritage, distinct clothing, and dialects. Eca Flor de Maíz focuses on supporting indigenous communities recovering from the devastation caused by civil war by empowering economic development through coffee cultivation. Eca Flor de Maíz members cultivate, harvest and process coffee with micro-mills on farms that average 1 acre in size.
