Colombia Carlos Eduardo Tejedor Borja 0 Defect Vacuum Sealed 24kg Box was selected as one of the top lots during the second annual National Coffee Quality Contest, an event hosted by La Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia (FNC), which supports more than 500,00 farmers in Colombia. The FNC offered five cash prices of $25,000 each for winning lots. Coffee samples for this contest exceeded all expectations reaching a total of 1092 samples from 17 departments. Thirty judges from Asia, Europe and North America cupped, scored and ranked the top 70 coffees, after which 26 lots were offered through an auction. Royal bid on and won three lots representing 11.5 percent of the auctioned coffee. Carlos Eduardo Tejedor Borja produced one of the top lots in this year’s competition on his 22-acre farm called El Recuerdo, located in the municipality of Zetaquira in the department of Boyacá, Colombia. Carlos is 45 years old and started working in coffee eight years ago. Carlos uses his own micro-mill to process the harvest, which allows for meticulous care in cherry selection, depulping, fermenting, and drying the coffee. Carlos, along with his wife and three children also grow sugar cane and dragon fruit trees on the family farm. Carlos plans to use his earnings from the coffee premiums to making improvements to his wet mill and his farm.
