It’s not just wet hulled.
Indonesia holds more variety in processing and flavor profiles than it gets credit for. The world’s 4th largest coffee producer is home to a bevy of distinct origins, from Sumatra to Sulawesi and beyond. Come along for a journey through Indonesia with some local roaster friends, the Consulate General of Indonesia, Bob Fulmer (co-founder of Royal Coffee), and Evan Gilman (fresh off a trip to Sulawesi), and taste some recent arrivals from this abundant archipelago!
If you choose, you may add a donation to Grounds for Health to your registration for this event.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia will also be in attendance to promote Indonesia’s rich specialty coffee culture, give an update on the current state of Indonesian coffee, and show how Belift Coffee is providing brighter futures for homeless youth in San Francisco through their collaboration with Larkin Street Youth Services.

Robert Fulmer, Co-founder & President of Royal Coffee, Inc.
Robert Fulmer’s coffee career began in 1976, working at TCM Reconditioning, cleaning coffee damaged in transit. In 1978, he cofounded Royal Coffee with Pete McLaughlin in Emeryville, California and began buying the best arabica coffee available from local importers. In 1982, Fulmer began importing container loads from origin and expanded warehousing, delivery, risk management, and coffee education services. Right around this time, his business partner Pete McLaughlin met with a handful of coffee industry players to write the first draft for an industry trade organization which would later become the SCAA. Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s, Royal helped to usher in the specialty coffee revolution on the West Coast which has now spread to all corners of the globe.
As a charter member of the SCAA, Fulmer served on the Conference Planning Committee held at Moscone Center in the year 2000. He was the co-chairman of the SCAA Fair Trade Task Force. Today, he sits on the board of directors of Grounds for Health, an organization dedicated to screening and prevention of cervical cancer in coffee-growing communities. With Helen Nicholas, Max Nicholas-Fulmer (his son, and current CEO of Royal Coffee, Inc.), and the help of over 50 key employees, Fulmer continues to finance and guide Royal Coffee, including The Crown: Royal Coffee Lab & Tasting Room, warehouses in Seattle, Houston, Madison, Shanghai and the Oakland, CA warehouse, a 90,000 square foot “candy store full of the best coffees from around the world”.

About Grounds for Health
Since 1996, Grounds for Health has worked in Latin America and Africa to address one of the most significant disparities in women’s health globally. Cervical cancer is a nearly 100% treatable disease, and yet in the next 15 years it is expected to kill six million women – 90% of whom will live in developing countries. We specialize in working in communities that represent the base of global supply chains such as coffee, tea, cut flowers and cocoa. We are a mission-driven, international non-profit organization, born out of and with enduring ties to the coffee industry, and focused on increasing coverage of cervical cancer prevention services.
