Background Details

Ethiopia Gedeb 1 Natural Gutiti Roba Family GrainPro coffee is produced and processed by the Roba family as a separate micro-lot at the family farm near the community of Banko Gotiti located in the southern district of Gedeb, Ethiopia.  Bedhatu Jibicho has almost single handedly run the family farm since the 1960s.  As Bedhatu is now over 80 years old, her adult children have started to become more involved in continuing her rich tradition of coffee production.  In particular, three of Bedhatu’s sons (Kefyalew Roba, Bekele Roba, and Tesfaye Roba) have started to manage operations at the farm.  Kefyalew has a degree in forestry.  Bekele has a degree in social and environmental development.  Tesfaye has a degree in business management.  Together the Roba family has taken its special combination of tradition and education to vertically integrate the family business.  The farm now has its own washing station and drying bed so coffee can be processed at the farm.  The family also hopes to establish an export company in the near future.
